Understanding the curriculum
The French curriculum provides a progression from preschool through upper secondary school. Abroad, French homologation confirms that teaching meets the French framework for specified stages or grades. Teaching in French alone does not establish that a school follows this curriculum.
Stages of the pathway
Preschool and primary
Ask how the school supports language development, reading, writing and mathematics. Check how Arabic and English fit into the timetable.
Collège
Lower secondary school leads to troisième and the diplôme national du brevet. Compare learning support, language options and continuity into upper secondary school.
Lycée
Upper secondary leads to the baccalauréat. Ask which pathways, specialist subjects and international sections the school actually offers.
When might this pathway suit your family?
- Your child can learn comfortably in French or will receive suitable language support.
- You want continuity with an existing French school pathway.
- The available upper secondary subjects fit your child’s future study plans.
Questions to ask on a visit
- Which stages or grades have homologation for the enrollment year?
- What support is available for children transferring from another curriculum?
- Is upper secondary on the same campus, and which specialist subjects are available?
- Which registration, meal, transport, examination and materials fees are additional?

Frequently asked questions
Does every French-speaking school follow the French curriculum?
No. French can be the teaching language within a Moroccan or another curriculum. Ask which curriculum and final qualification are offered and which grades have homologation.
Can children transfer from another curriculum?
Ask the school to review the academic record and explain its assessment and transition arrangements. Placement depends on the child’s previous studies and available places.
Is the Olipo list the official homologation register?
No. It brings together approved profiles mentioning the French system or an associated network. The ministry’s official list remains the reference for homologation.
