Understanding the curriculum
There is no single federal American curriculum: curricula and graduation requirements are primarily determined locally and by institutions. For a school in Morocco, ask which standards it follows, what graduation requires and who awards the diploma.
Stages of the pathway
Elementary school
Ask how reading, mathematics and other learning are organized. Look at the feedback children receive and how families can follow their progress.
Middle school
Check the transition toward more subject-specific teaching. A sample report card and timetable can clarify the school’s approach.
High school
Ask which credits are required for the High School Diploma and which courses are available. Some schools also offer AP courses or an IB pathway; check these options separately.
When might this pathway suit your family?
- Your child can learn in English with any necessary support.
- You want to follow progress through a detailed academic record.
- Available courses and counseling match your child’s future study plans.
Questions to ask on a visit
- Who awards the diploma, and what are the graduation requirements?
- Which standards guide the curriculum and how is learning assessed?
- Which AP courses or IB programmes are actually available?
- How does the school recognize previous credits when a pupil transfers?
